until 16.12. | #1666ARTatBerlin | Galerie WAGNER + PARTNER presents from 10th November 2017 the exhibition “Nachlauf” by the artist Bastian Börsig.
Bastian Boersig’s third solo exhibition at WAGNER + PARTNER showcases the Karlsruhe artist’s new series of medium and large format paintings. The title Feints refers to the after-shots produced during the distillation of spirits – where through a process of boiling and extraction, various alcohols and aromas from the fermented mash are either eliminated or kept. Similarly, Boersig takes the view that he also undergoes a process of distillation in the painting process, by separating aesthetically visual ingredients.
Bastian Boersig’s practice is primarily concerned with processes that involve allocation and arrangement. These include the investigation of colours, fields of colour, inclusive and exclusionary lines, along with the heterogeneous and relational aspects of materials. The addition and transformation of various pictorial elements, such as references to comics, fragments of reality or the dismantling of surface textures to aesthetically recharge them, define his approach. This precise differentiation in the production of contemporary, abstract painting is a unique characteristic of his works and lends his paintings an enhanced aesthetic presence.
Bastian Boersig (1984*) was born in Schwaebisch Hall and studied under Prof. Erwin Gross at the Academy of Fine Arts, Karlsruhe. Boersig lives and works in Karlsruhe, and his first self-titled monograph was published by Distanz Verlag in 2016.
