until 16.03. | #4159ARTatBerlin | Galerie Z22 shows from 20. January 2024 the exhibition Hille & Hömmel – Animal Farm (> Hellen & Heav – Animal Farm) with painting and sculpture by the artist Kai Teichert. This exhibition will be presented as an open studio.
In his second solo exhibition at Galerie Z22, Kai Teichert turns his attention to the animal world, the animal within us. He combines new, unpainted portrait busts made of unfired clay with life-size images of animals from the Chinese horoscope.
The zodiac signs rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog and pig are deeply rooted in the rural coexistence of humans and animals. By transferring animal character traits to humans, we maintain contact with the animalistic in us and with the forces of fate that guide us through life, playfully and profoundly at the same time, ingeniously simple and fabulously cheerful.

“Hille and Hömmel!” exclaims the painter and explains: “I spent a whole day stirring colours together to get a bucket of colourful grey, a primordial muddy tone, like clay slurry, so that the silhouettes of the animals have a creaturely presence and don’t look like banal silhouettes, but rest iconically in themselves, like lively shadow creatures. That’s why I suggested a cave-like “palaeo-lighting” for the opening.”
