All that’s missing is the color, we told each other. ”

Comments on the photo project “NACHTHELL” by Otto Reitsperger
The sea and the sky at night are black to our eyes, in moonlight we can see color-reduced vision. However, a photochemical process on the film material is able to “add” the incident light to daylit images. Over a period of six years, Otto Reitsperger traveled through Europe, parts of the USA, Asia and North Africa, in order to bring the same and ever new and different views of the sea into view at quite different vantage points. The only source of light was the reflected light of the moon. Using long-term exposures of up to one hour, a mostly delicate color was found on the edge of overexposure, which otherwise escapes our perception.
