until 02.12. | #1611ARTatBerlin | Jarvis Dooney shows from 15th September 2017 dthe exhibition “Threshold” by the artist Anne Zahalka.

Jarvis Dooney Galerie is honoured and humbled to present recent work from one of Australia’s most highly regarded photo-media artists Anne Zahlaka.

For over 30 years her work has often explored cultural stereotyping and challenged these with a humorous and critical voice. She deconstructs familiar images and re-presents them to allow other figures and stories to be told that reflect on cultural diversity, gender and difference within Australian society.

THRESHOLD (2015) is an installation involving video, prints and vitrine with objects and artefacts from work made in Morocco.

“Travelling through the vast and ancient landscape of Morocco, El Magrib – (the far west), I felt I was between two worlds, gazing at a place so geographically, historically and culturally distinct from my own. I wanted to make images that would record these differences while reflecting on the inherent photogenic tropes and clichés that come with this territory..” Anne Zahalka
