The Kunstverein Ost – KVOST for short – was founded in 2018. It emerged from the gallery koal and is dedicated to the promotion of artists who come from Eastern Europe or whose life and work were influenced by the experience of the former Eastern Bloc. The Kunstverein’s premises in Berlin’s Mitte district, as part of the large-scale urban development project Leipziger Strasse, once designed as a socialist utopia, provide an exciting point of reference. Founded in 2006, the former gallery koal showed young contemporary art that explores the boundaries between media and genres. The gallery focused on sculpture and installation, represented by the works of Yinon Avior, Katinka Pilscheur, Yitzhak Golombek, Dennis Feddersen and Jeanno Gaussi. Ingo Mittelstaedt, who photographs installations, and Arne Schreiber, whose paintings appear object-like, completed the program.
KVOST is located at Leipziger Strasse 47 at the corner of Jerusalemer Strasse in Berlin-Mitte.
