Tim Neuger and Burkhard Riemschneider opened their gallery at Goethestraße 69 in Berlin-Charlottenburg in May 1994 with an exhibition by Jorge Pardo. In the following years, neugerriemschneider showed the first solo exhibitions of the then still unknown artists Franz Ackermann, Sharon Lockhart, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Michel Majerus, Tobias Rehberger, Elizabeth Peyton and Olafur Eliasson. They became an integral part of the gallery programme and are now among the most influential artists of their generation. In September 1998, the gallery moved into its new premises at Linienstraße 155 in Berlin-Mitte, which opened with an exhibition by Olafur Eliasson. Over the years, the gallery programme has been expanded to include further pioneering artistic positions, with Pae White and Simon Starling joining the gallery in 2001, followed by the first solo exhibitions with Isa Genzken and Pawel Althamer in 2003. Since 2011, neugerriemschneider has also represented the American filmmaker and artist James Benning and showed Ai Weiwei’s first solo exhibition at the gallery. The exhibition project by Mike Nelson presented in a temporary exhibition space at abc 2012 was the first solo exhibition with the artist, whom the gallery has represented since then. nGbK – Neue Gesellschaft für bildende Kunst

Founded in 1969, the neue Gesellschaft für bildende Kunst (nGbK) is one of the most active and largest art associations in Germany. The grassroots democratic structure enables direct influence on exhibitions, interventions, research projects, event series and publications. Members develop and supervise projects in interdisciplinary groups from idea to realisation. The programme is decided by the members, who discuss and select it annually in a collective process. The nGbK has established itself as an innovative centre for contemporary art, influencing generations of curators, artists and cultural professionals. Its exhibition concepts are considered ground-breaking, and it deals with socio-politically relevant issues such as racism, nationalism and urban policy. The examination of (post)migrant, (post)colonialist and gender issues is another focus. Art is understood as a form of action that has an impact on social processes. The active members shape the programme with great personal commitment and carry on the founders’ original idea of a new society. AOA;87 contemporary is a gallery for contemporary art with locations in Bamberg (2020) and Berlin-Mitte (2023). The gallery’s founder, gallery owner Angela Kohlrusch, and her staff present emerging and established artists in various media such as painting, sculpture, object art and video. The gallery AOA;87 functions as a discourse space dedicated not only to viewing but also to intellectual exchange. In addition to solo presentations, AOA;87 arranges thematic group exhibitions and confronts established positions with young ones. The gallery publishes a catalogue for each exhibition, organises artist talks and discussions and participates in institutional collaborations and international art fairs to promote the visibility of the artists. Q Gallery Berlin opened at the end of November 2018 in Großgörschenstraße in the north of Schöneberg – one of the most historic areas of Berlin. In the 1920s, a large number of publishing houses and galleries were located here. The area was popular with artists and literary figures. Claire Waldoff and Joseph von Eichendorff are just two names of those who lived and worked here. In 1963, Berlin’s first producer’s gallery opened at number 35, and the well-known UFO Club Berlin moved into the street shortly before the fall of the Berlin Wall. Q Gallery Berlin wants to become part of this history. It focuses on contemporary art in the field of tension between European artists from the Orient and the Occident. The European continent stretches from the Caspian Sea across Central Europe to the Strait of Gibraltar in the immediate vicinity of the African continent. This geographical arc is significant as a programmatic spectrum for the Q Gallery’s art education and exhibitions.
