until 02.11. | #4379ARTatBerlin | Galerie Barbara Thumm shows from 07. September 2024 (Opening: 06.09.) the exhibition Irrlichter by the artist Martin Dammann.
Martin Dammann’s (*1965, Friedrichshafen/Lake Constance, Germany) artistic practice oscillates between photography, video, drawing and watercolours. The artist draws inspiration from his collection of other people’s photographs and his own. From this he creates large-format watercolours that capture certain elements of the images. At the same time, he questions classic techniques, rules and conventions associated with the watercolour medium
The works on display in the Irrlichter exhibition capture the interplay between light, darkness and the perpetual human state of searching. This atmospheric collection, inspired by the elusive phenomenon of the will-o’-the-wisp from folk tales, is a testament to Dammann’s ability to capture fleeting moments in photographs and translate them into timeless images
